Here is an issue parents have voiced in our forums since March:
Many parents find that having good relationships with other parents, as with teachers, benefits their own children’s education. Many parents also suggest that having input into improving the schools is important to them.
(Parents have suggested that parents from all the programs at the Healey should have more opportunities to talk together, since how parents get along affects children. Many parents have said that they feel that many misconceptions about the “other program’s” parents exist. Many parents have said that the Healey should have a sense of school community that stretches across programs; parents have suggested that parents should clarify which educational desires they share/don’t share. And across programs, parents have said that the issue of tapping parent participation at the Healey is particularly complex and demands closer attention. Which everyday actions convince parents to "get involved" in partnership with educators and one another? What barriers exist to typical forms of "parent involvement," like donating time or money?
So, tell us: how do you feel relationships between parents are going at the Healey right now? How about relationships between parents and teachers? Do you want to have more input, as a parent? And in particular, how do you feel about the issue of “parent participation," which was a key issue in our discussions?
