What sorts of conversations are needed to move the Healey community forward?

With this forum, Healey parents can talk to each other whenever we want to. Because this is a public forum, school committee members can come here to hear our voices, too.

Healey parents are debating three "options" for the future of the school (see my post on Mr. Sabin's three "options" document). The school committee needs our input so they can decide.

But to really weigh in on education in Somerville, I personally think we need to ask a deeper question. What kind of education do we want for our kids?

What other sorts of conversations do you think are needed to move the Healey community forward?

We just talked to several parents who live in the Mystic Development and are very interested in our parent dialogues. One mom says that she wasn't aware about the 3 choices up for debate at the Healey. She is coming to our May 1 dialogue.

We met several other parents in the Mystic Development tonight who were unaware of the "3 options" debate underway at the Healey. This raises a key communication issue: the Choice listserve is an excellent way to share both information and opportunities regarding kids, and conversation about the "3 options" has been raging there for weeks. If you're not in the program and/or not on the listserve, it becomes even harder to find out about what is going on in the school. Information relies upon a child's backpack.

Four questions that really got us going at our May 1 parent forum at the Mystic Activity Center:

    1. What do you expect a school to do? What questions do you have about this school?

    2. What do you like about the Healey? What do you want to change about the Healey?

What other questions do you think parents need to be asked?
