Here is an issue Healey parents have voiced in our forums since March:
Parents appreciate access to teachers, and they want good communication between school and home.
(For example: Parents think it is important that parents be able to go into Healey classrooms and to talk to teachers. They really welcome this contact when it is possible. Parents have said that it should be easier for school and parents to communicate about events and about how children are doing. For example, parents point out that many translation issues exist across the school/district and within the Choice program as well. Parents said that all material (and events) should be translated more quickly and easily so that all parents get information. Parents in our forums have noted many translation issues that people want to better understand and address. Parents have also expressed surprise upon learning that only some programs offer listservs or directories.
Parents have also expressed a strong desire to know about any changes or decisions that are being made for the Healey School, and to be kept aware of discussions that are taking place about those changes or decisions. In addition, many parents have said that some parents in Somerville still need better information about all the Healey and Somerville programs available for young people. Finally, many parents have said that all Healey School events should be more explicitly open to all the children.
What’s your take on issues of communication at the Healey, or in Somerville? How would you improve communications if you could?
